Appropriate Behaviour

16/08/2015 – 06:00 pm
Liverpool Small Cinema – 57 – 59 Victoria Street, Liverpool, L1 6DE

My #1 choice for this week is my favourite little indie film of last year in my favourite little cinema of this year!

I like to consider this film part of the amazing new wave of content coming from Female creators based around New York ala Girls, Broad City and Kimmy Schmidt. The reason I loved this film so much is it add’s a much needed injection of diversity and freshness to the ’20 something struggling through real life’ trope in Cinema and TV. The film follows Writer, Director and Lead Actress Desiree Akhavan as Shirin, a bisexual Persian American 20-something trying to pick up the pieces of her life and identity following a significantly big break up. Appropriate Behaviour is an hilariously fresh take on an old trope as Shirin tries to find herself whilst dealing with issues in her culture, sexuality and her identity within the city she lives in.

Jaws

14/08/2015 – 08:45 pm
Mac Birmingham – Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, B12 9QH

With next weeks weather predicted to be shining what better way to enjoy it than sitting outside in your best Jaw’s themed fancy dress, supping on a cocktail and chomping on themed food watching the greatest summer blockbuster of all time?!

Any opportunity to catch Jaws on the big screen should be taken let alone an outdoor screening so be sure to get down and party with Police Chief Martin Brody, the citizens of Amity Island and that lovable toothy fella JAWS!

The Dark Knight

14/08/2015 – 09:00 pm
QUEEN SQUARE CAR PARK ROOF LEVEL 7B – Queen Square Liverpool L1 1RH

Number #3 on my list is the outdoor pick for the northern crowd!

Remember all the amazing concrete cityscapes shot in The Dark Knight Rises, and that amazing opening Car Park brawl? Well the Secret Rooftop Cinema crew are bringing that all to life with an amazing outdoor screening of Christopher Nolan’s seminal 2nd Batman film on the rooftop of Queens Square Car Park in Liverpool.

With immersive surroundings and amazing city views this looks to be an amazing event, but please report any suspicious characters in clown make up to the organisers.

The Lion King

12/08/2015 – 08:00 pm
Arch 1 – West Ham Arches, Cranberry Ln, London, E16 4BJ

So just incase the weather does end up predictably naff, choice #4 is a childhood classic of mine for a rainy day. When I was a kid the VHS we had of this was likely played to death, to me and many this is one of the greatest animated films of all time. Be sure to get down with your best singing voice intact for some of the best disney songs by regular maestro Hans Zimmer and the tissues at the ready for disney’s teariest moments!

Do You Own The Dancefloor?

15/08/2015 – 06:30 pm
THE ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC – 124 Oxford Rd, Manchester, M13 9RD

My last but certainly not least film pick for the week is as Mancunian as it gets! This fantastic film will be screening at the royal college of music and tells the story of the auction that followed the abrupt closure of The Hacienda, Manchester’s 90’s musical mecca.

As if the film didn’t already sound great enough with its iconic subject matter and appearances from the likes of Noel Gallagher, all profits from this screening will go to Kidneys for Life and Cancer Research! GO MAD FOR IT!
